RENOVATION
The photo at the right shows the before look of this 1850 farmhouse. The original home was a traditional New England farmhouse including a tiny, older kitchen in need of remodeling. The views from both the kitchen and other north facing rooms were poor and insulation was practically nonexistent.
The addition which appears in the remainder of the photos is one story and sits behind the original home. An architect spent many hours designing an addition that would be historically correct as well as open up the kitchen and capture the beautiful vista looking to the North at Mt. Ascutney. The 1,000 sq.ft. addition created an opening from the kitchen to a dining/living room which features native pine floors that were custom sawn, planed and kiln dried, are up to 24" wide and nailed with old-fashioned cut nails.
To ward off the winter chill, an 1800 vintage style fireplace is the focal point of the room. Marvin windows with true divided glass capture the views. Leading out of this magnificent living/dining area and down three steps a Swimex wave pool beckons. This area contains Marvin windows throughout and a blue stone floor with radiant heat. For summertime entertaining, a blue stone patio surrounded by a wrap around stone wall provides the perfect setting for endless amounts of entertaining. |
